LINKS
By Joe Stinnett
I enjoyed discussing Out of Virginia with a group of local LINKS members and area students at Randolph College in Lynchburg. “The Links, Incorporated is an international, not-for-profit corporation, established in 1946. It is one of the nation’s oldest and largest volunteer service organizations committed to enriching, sustaining, and ensuring the culture and economic survival of African Americans and other people of African ancestry.”
Good conversation which reminded me that Lott Carey from Richmond, one of the founding fathers of Liberia, is better known in Virginia because of his namesake Baptist missionary organization, the Lott Carey Baptist Foreign Mission Society lottcarey.org. He once preached in Lynchburg and I believe helped inspire the first local emigrants, and I tell his story in the book.
